Arena of Creation/Phases of Transformation
Marius Glauer at EIGEN+ART Lab

Regeneration of the photographic image lies at the center of Marius Glauer’s art. He invents or stages his motifs somewhere between science fiction and constructivism: modernist experiments, poppy flowers against dark, iridescent lenticular foil, luminous photograms, or seashells hovering like birds in sky-blue. At the same time, Glauer engages new possibilities of spatial presentation. He puts the seashell’s c-print in a showcase, dangles photographs as tubes from the ceiling, and lets large panels float into the room: part photograph, part photographic sculpture, part installation. Through these varied versions of display at EIGEN + ART Lab, Glauer puts his art through phases of transformation as he calls them. He positions the works close together so they can communicate. Sometimes they clash, sometimes they fit into their surroundings like a chameleon. The result is an evolutionary arena of creation, of multiperspectivity, of wild flinging on one side and meticulous balancing on the other. It features the rough, flaring character of metropolitan Berlin as well as the tenderness of spring or the melancholic impressions of the progress of time.

As an extension of Glauer’s solo exhibition WAIT A MINUTE at Francisco Carolinum in Linz, Austria (on show until July 27), this Berlin exhibition becomes a stage for the presentation of the Linzer exhibition catalogue: On May 17, 2025 at 4 pm, the artist engages in a discussion with art historian and curator Nils Emmerichs as well as the curators Susanne Watzenboeck (Francisco Carolinum) and Charlotte Sarrazin (Foundation Beyeler).
